GVOC gives support to local voluntary groups in Gateshead

Gateshead Voluntary Organisations Council provides advice, information and training, on funding, constitutions, finances and legal charitable structures, to voluntary and community groups in Gateshead. It promotes volunteering, and community involvement in local strategic planning.

The following apply to GVOC.  Please go to our news/events page for others.

What's new?

GVOC are looking to become a Company Limited by Guarantee, this does not mean GVOC is closing!

Incorporating GVOC will involve winding up the existing unincorporated association and transferring its assets and activities to a new limited company provisionally called “Gateshead Voluntary Organisations Council”, so life would go on as usual for GVOC and all our members, with staff and management committee members remaining the same, with the added protection of incorporation for our board members and GVOC would work within the guidelines of Companies House as well as the Charity Commission.

Compact - working together better together

Funding and Procurement Code

Introduction

The Government recognises that the voluntary and community sector can make a significant contribution to achieving the vision of a fair society, with strong communities and opportunity for everyone.  Many voluntary and community organisations enter into a financial relationship with Government to deliver outcomes on its behalf.

It is important that the financial relationship is constructed in such a way that allows outcomes to be maximised.  The Compact Code of Good Practice on Funding and Procurement aims to influence behaviour in both the voluntary and community sector and Government.  The Code does this through setting a framework for the financial relationship; and setting out undertakings for both sides, based on what each side can expect from the other.

Prior to further discussions please view the full code at www.the compact.org.uk and click on Codes of Good Practice/Funding and Procurement.

GVOC Diversity Statement

GVOC is committed to ensuring that the services we provide are relevant to the needs of all sections of the community and that our workforce represents the people we serve.

We aim to ensure that our services meet the varied individual needs and expectations of local people and that everyone has equal access to services, regardless of their race, heritage, gender, religious or non-religious belief, nationality, family background, age, disability or sexuality. We recognise that services must be relevant, responsive and sensitive, and that GVOC must be perceived as fair and equitable in its provision of services by our service users, by our partners and the wider community. We aim to ensure that our contractors and others who deliver our services also share our vision and values.

We also recognise that we work in a richly diverse community and understand the strategic importance of achieving a diverse workforce, which reflects that community. We undertake to recruit, develop and retain the most talented people by valuing the varied skills and experiences they bring to GVOC; by investing in their training and development; by treating staff fairly and equitably; by combating harassment and discrimination at work, and by encouraging an honest and open culture which values the differences between us.

As a local development agency for the voluntary sector we recognise the important leadership role we have in promoting and encouraging tolerance, fairness and equality and in influencing other voluntary organisations, service providers and employers. GVOC undertakes to work closely with local people, businesses, employers, voluntary and community groups and our other partners to build a more tolerant, compassionate and respectful place in which we can all live and work.

This statement links in to GVOC’s Equal Opportunities Policy and Employment Policy.
